Hello All:

I own a 2003 NBC with a 2.0 engine non turbo and automatic transmission. This is the first time this happens. I've been driving the car for about 4 months now.
This morning I drove the car about ten miles and stopped at a traffic light. I drove the car about 40 feet when all of a sudden the transmission was stuck in 5th gear gear. I continued to give it gas and it picked up speed again. Next traffic light same thing happened. the third traffic light I put the car in park and 1st gear showed up again but it would not go into second unless I shifted the gear to the right (tiptronic shift?) then it jerked and moved. I drove like that until I got to work shortly thereafter. Any thoughts? Car has about 110K miles.

I would start by scanning for codes.

These transmissions are known to be problematic. It could be a bad valve body. Could need new fluid and filter. Or something else. Which is why getting codes is the first step.

Mods please move this to the appropriate forum. I posted in wrong place. Newbie here.
Valve body going bad. Will lock up when two valves stay ingaged at the same time. Vw beatle are known for it. I found a guy who rebuilds them for about 600.00 but you must remove and replace for that price. He is in Tampa. Check on line. He puts a small hole in the end of the valve to release the pressure. It can start as early as 80.000 miles.
