i am wanting to do a manual transmission swap. i have a 2000 vw beetle gls with a crappy auto that does not work but in 3rd. and i was wondering what all will i need to do this kind of swap. any help will be greatly appreciated.

No need for multiple threads. You'll get some pointers for sure.

I've only done the swap on a TDI, which is a little easier since you don't need to change out the ECU. But basically, ideally you'd want to find a whole car for a donor. That way you can get all the bits and pieces you may need. Like the clutch pedal, ECU and such. I know we needed a different power steering line to go around the trans, not sure if the gassers are the same.

You'll also need VAG-COM.

I replied to your Other Thread; however I was not aware that an ECU replacement would be needed; however I agree with Smileybug, having a donor car would be best.

As far as I'm aware, the ECU needs to be swapped on a gasser. On a TDI, you can make a change via VAG-COM that tells the ECU that the car is now a manual and will disable the PRNDL display and change the fuel mapping to match that of a manual. But the gassers don't allow you to make that change in VAG-COM.
