We are 19 days out from meeting Friday, the 23rd, in Poteau, Oklahoma. Participants usually arrive around 6:00 PM or so. Most of us are staying at the Days Inn. Ana, Tim, and baby Holley will be down the street at the Best Western. In past years, we've had supper at Western Sizzlin Steaks, but I'd be open for other choices. Saturday morning, we get up around 8:00 and have breakfast, probably at McDonalds or the Continental at Days Inn itself. After breakfast, I suggest that we pick up sandwiches at Subway to eat at some stop on the cruise. Then we head to the car wash, where hopefully, any locals with Beetles will see us and join in. We then depart for the Talimena mountains about a half-hour away. We'll end up in Mena, Arkansas afterwards and take a faster highway route back to Poteau. We usually go to Braum's when we get back for burgers and ice cream. Next, many people go the Days Inn hot tub. Somewhere in the mix, I've mentioned that I'd like to park the Beetles for an hour or two and have an informal "show." I'm open to ideas, and it would all depend on how early (or late) we get started Saturday, unless....we could do this on Sunday before we part ways. Some people do the run again on Sunday. To my knowledge, we have:
Mike Levy
Ana Hanmore
Antoine De Hon
Jason Diamond
Randi Dawson
Tom and Lisa Reich-Arnall
Patrick Sills
Bill and Shirley Jinkins
Bobby Ferrill and Sean Mack Page are "maybes."
If you feel so inclined, come and join us, or if you're located further east, Back of the Dragon also takes place that weekend. October 24-25, 2015.

Im up for anything as well :) and I think charging for decals and shirts in advanced is a great idea
Sounds good to me

I'd pay $25-$30 per person for a shirt and a decal and to help offset costs for the rally. Once people feel they have some skin in the game and have swag and events pre-organized they may be more motivated to go.

Plus the chance to see Kevin again makes it all worth while!

Yes id go just to see Kevin again lol
We could print a logo of Kevin posing with carhops on rollerskates. It'd be perfect! :D

Seriously, I too would be open to any and all suggestions and input. I want 2015 to be bigger and better!

Get a different job so we can have it in November :p

It really doesn't matter what weekend we decide. People have to make the commitment to be there. Ah well.

But like you said, a lot of things were out of our control (like the weather, which is Kevin's fault) and people's other engagements. I really don't think changing the date by a week or two would eliminate any problems. IIRC, we did take a general vote for the weekend we picked and no one really said anything against it. so... IDK. I had a great time with everyone though. I won't forget my swim suit and radios next time lmao

I haven't ruled that possibility out, believe me. It's not only this event where I've been cut short twice in a row now, but also the potential for other NB/12+ GTGs. To put this another way, if Oct 11-12 hadn't happened to be my normal weekend off in the rotation, I would have been SOL altogether. If I keep the job I have, though, for 2015 it'll be a different weekend, probably the one before that or after. I was also wondering about later due to fall colors. We're at peak up here right now, but down that way, it occurs later, doesn't it?

However, I may indeed be looking into switching to a different department where I'd have a normal M-F 8-4 gig with accumulated vacation time that would NOT be yanked out from under me. The catch is about a $1 an hour pay cut. Keep posted for further developments.......I will say my wife favors the idea. I'll get my current department through the holiday crap, then start seriously pondering this in January.
Radios?

I had my Speedo with me! I was just too tired to go crash out in the hot tub!

Next year Wifey's big conference is between the 7th and the 9th of October in Atlanta. That would be a 648 mile drive leaving Atlanta at noon. That weekend would pretty much be out for us.

I wonder if we can consume adult beverages in Mena? I know we can't purchase them there. Don't really want to end up in jail for a night or two with Otis or Kevin.

Is there anywhere else to eat in POTOW besides the trough? I swear I had the collywobbles after eating that greasy yardbird there.

Kevin probably cooks there on the weekends.
I haven't been a drinker for years, but I would assume that if Mena is dry, it would also be illegal to drink there in public. There would have to be other restaurants in Poteau, too. Or maybe we could do something like the ToD crew does: collect for a bunch of catered Pizzas.
Pizza

That Pizza Hut wasn't bad except Kevin took all the Pepperoni's off of my pizza!
If u do move it to November just please not the first weekend other then that's whenever ?
I'll remember that, Ana. If I end up staying at my present job, November would still be out, anyway. I'll wait to see how the employee situation is after the holidays are over. I won't let myself get screwed again in 2015!
I figured I'd get this started.

I'll begin with some thoughts here. As we know, the turnout for TSD '14 was a bit smaller than anticipated. Actually, a LOT smaller. Certain things happened beyond any control, which will happen, but I'm wondering if we should move it to a different weekend. It would have to be before November, but I'd be up for anything before then.

Also, I was presented with an idea that may make more people apt to commit themselves. It was suggested that we charge for T-shirts, decals, etc in advance, and in addition, perhaps a nominal fee for promotion could be implemented.

Don't get me wrong here, for those of us that did show up, it was an enjoyable experience, but it was nevertheless disappointing to be expecting 15-20 Beetles and having just 6! I want this to become as big as Roswell and ToD someday, and we've got a ways to go before that becomes a reality.
Hey everyone. Sure wish I could have been there this past year! :( Sucks having 2 people quit and no one to cover.... All well!

DEcals and t's: Thank you to those who ordered t's and an even bigger thanks for those who paid and put some faith in me. I most sincerely apologize for the lateness of the swag. I hope all those who attended got their shirts, I know Pat did! I only suggested no charge for the t's because I was unsure of how they would turn out!

Going forward with swag, I am going to set up a planning thread. I lack the artistic skills beyond copy and paste, so I will direct all suggestions there.

Charging an attendance fee: I like this idea. Perhaps if we do this we should have someone be a Treasurer? Not me, I will spend it...

Anyway, count me in on #4!
2015

Hi Guys,

We are still looking for dates for the 2015 TSD trip. The weekend of the 10th is Wifey's Magnet conference in Atlanta. We don't know if we are going or not.

Atlanta to Poteau is a long way to do in one day for us old farts. If we don't go to Atlanta we may be able to do this trip again. We will see as we may be saving vacation time for the IBT 2016 US.1 trips from Key West to Fort Kent ME.

Chuckie
Well hopefully in 2015 I won't be in a brand new job with a bunch of weekend labs. I sure wanted to see everyone.
I feel guilty here because I'm just now seeing posts from around Christmastime, and I've been the one complaining about how nobody comes to the Org anymore and just does the Collective!

At the moment, it looks like my scheduled weekends off in October would be the 3rd and the 24th. Would either of these work for anyone else? I ask because I've had a hell of a time the past 2 years just getting there even on my regular weekend off let alone switching with someone else. It's bad karma, but every time Talimena has rolled around, that's when a bunch of people decide to quit at my workplace and I get screwed.
I am down for the 24th. That will work well for me.
24th of October

The weekend of the 24th makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Hopefully Kevin will behave himself this year and we will all have a great time.

Chuckie
So far, me, Dustin, Chuckie, and Ana/Tim like Oct 24th. Don (******) pointed out on the Collective that this will be the same weekend as Back of the Dragon, but I really don't think this affect the TSD crowd. Does anyone else?
Hmmm

I suppose that could affect us being from Florida. I have never done the Back of the Dragon and I have been to Talimena. I wasn't aware there was a date for that trip. I guess it will depend on if I do hear or see anything about it.

After doing 6,000 Miles of the IBT this year I am pretty sure I can't do both TSD and BOD. I would hate to miss out on seeing my mid and SW friends again, but I will probably see them in Roswell anyway.

Decisions decisions. We will see what happens as time marches on.
