TSD 2015 Planning Thread

We are 19 days out from meeting Friday, the 23rd, in Poteau, Oklahoma. Participants usually arrive around 6:00 PM or so. Most of us are staying at the Days Inn. Ana, Tim, and baby Holley will be down the street at the Best Western. In past years, we've had supper at Western Sizzlin Steaks, but I'd be open for other choices. Saturday morning, we get up around 8:00 and have breakfast, probably at McDonalds or the Continental at Days Inn itself. After breakfast, I suggest that we pick up sandwiches at Subway to eat at some stop on the cruise. Then we head to the car wash, where hopefully, any locals with Beetles will see us and join in. We then depart for the Talimena mountains about a half-hour away. We'll end up in Mena, Arkansas afterwards and take a faster highway route back to Poteau. We usually go to Braum's when we get back for burgers and ice cream. Next, many people go the Days Inn hot tub. Somewhere in the mix, I've mentioned that I'd like to park the Beetles for an hour or two and have an informal "show." I'm open to ideas, and it would all depend on how early (or late) we get started Saturday, unless....we could do this on Sunday before we part ways. Some people do the run again on Sunday. To my knowledge, we have:
Mike Levy
Ana Hanmore
Antoine De Hon
Jason Diamond
Randi Dawson
Tom and Lisa Reich-Arnall
Patrick Sills
Bill and Shirley Jinkins
Bobby Ferrill and Sean Mack Page are "maybes."
If you feel so inclined, come and join us, or if you're located further east, Back of the Dragon also takes place that weekend. October 24-25, 2015.

It's still a bit early, but this thread needs to be bumped, anyway:

Here's what's going on for those who have done TSD in the past and those who have never experienced this GTG:

I made an attempt to start a TSD Group on the FB page, but I really don't know what I'm doing. It's a closed group that I'd like to have open, so I selected members : Randi, Bill Jinkins, Antione, Kat, Ana, Tonia, Bobby, and Dustin so far. Of these, I'm not sure who's going.....

This is a water Beetle event (except for Ana, who has become a new mother and will be coming in a 4-door GTI) that will take place on the weekend of Oct 24-25 in the Talimena Mountains of eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas. Three of us started this event in 2012 to complement Roswell and Tail of the Dragon because there are so few water-Beetle-specific gatherings as it is. Anyone reading this is invited to come. It's a Saturday cruise and we base ourselves in Poteau, Oklahoma. There is a Days Inn and another motel next door called the Black Angus. If enough people are interested, I'd like to add an informal parking and socializing time slot that would be visible to the public.

I cannot wait! :)
Thoughts:
1) In TOD fashion, I think we should place orders for Subway and pick them up after breakfast for a picnic along the drive.

2) Doing the drive back to home base... Have lunch at the Fire Tower, or an overlook on the way back.

Having an informal show...
There is a High School track parking lot right across the street from Home Base, and next to Braums.

There is a community center a short drive from Headquarters with a nice street view lot.

To be continued...
So Tim talking about leaving the 22nd in case anyone shows up early and cause traveling with Holley will make the drive a little longer to feed and change her. Still undecided which car I kinda want to take Laycee she could use the drive

I like your ideas, Dustin, and Ana, that would be awesome to take Laycee, but if Staycee is easier with Holley, I will understand. When I was a baby, I rode in a 1957 Oval Window Beetle, but child seats were unheard of back then. :p

I need to get planning going on this as it's 83 days away. Both here and on FB, I'll try to get a list of attendees in the next few days.
So far, we have:

1)Ana , Tim, & Holley
2)Bill & Shirley
3)Antione
4)Jason
5)Randi
6)Tonia
7)Dustin?
8)Kat?
9) Me

Hope to hear from more!

Going to try my absolute best, and its looking good.
Good to hear. Maybe we can caravan from the Twin Cities. Kat may have a conflict with her job, but it's uncertain yet. I'm also trying to get Nicole (Mokie 3), Bobby, and Tom & his wife from Eureka Springs, Ark. I'm also going to check with Danny. :)
Bump. I've attempted to PM that couple from Heavener that go by the screen name of Ben and Amanda, but I haven't had any luck with a reply. As some of you may remember, we missed them last year. Anyone know how to contact them in another way?
I got a block of rooms at the Poteau Days Inn for a $79 group rate ( about $91 after tax). So far we have 7 Beetle peeps confirmed:

1) Ana and Tim Hanmore (Laycee)
2) Antione (Marvin's Dad)
3) Jason (007)
4) Bill & Shirley Jinkins
5) Randi (Mortimer)
6) Mike Levy
7) Me

Let's get this number higher! There's 2 months and counting!
Would love to but I think that's the same weekend as my grandparents 70th anniversary. Needless to say that trumps all :D
Hi Pat, I'm wondering what your driving plans are? I'm thinking of going with Daisy Bug but still not sure. Thanks, Lisa

Well, if I don't get screwed into having to work the Friday graveyard shift as I have for the past 2 years, I would ideally leave Eau Claire Thursday afternoon and go about as far as Des Moines and then drive the rest of the way Friday. From your side of the state, however, it would probably make more sense to go down through Illinois to St. Louis and over to Joplin. I could go that way, but it would add 150-200 miles. I did do that in 2011 to meet up with the RTR caravan in Missouri. If you decide to go, we could figure something out, I'm sure.
I have an idea. I don't know if it will work, and I could use some help. I'm thinking of having flyers made for TSD to send to VW dealerships in the areas closest to the Talimena region, say, Tulsa, OKC, Ft. Smith, Little Rock, etc. But I'm not a designer... Would anyone out there be up to the task of creating a simple flyer?
If anyone is reading this, we only have 7 Beetles on board for TSD '15. My wish is to make this a major thing like RTR and ToD. Come on, check it out and join us!
Sometimes it takes a while for things to grow.
We didn't have 7 until the second year at BoD.

I'm curious: Is the Mid-Atlantic Coastal Group and the NC Beetle group one and the same, or are they 2 separate clubs?
NCBG is for NC, MACBG is for the states in the Mid-Atlantic region including NC.
Just a bump here.....28 days and counting. "Dieselgate" has been the focus of my attention as of late, and I'm sure most if not all of us can agree that this is something we didn't see coming at all, but I certainly have not forgotten TSD, and in fact eagerly await need the much-needed company of Beetle peeps!
