I had not been driving for a while because I had a baby and the car had been a little timid to start over winter because of it's lack of use. It started about three months ago after a couple months of unuse but hasn't since. Now it needs an emissions test, tabs, a brake job...

Now it's not rolling over enough to start all the way, we've charged the battery so that shouldn't be it.

Ideas welcome.

Have you changed the fuel filter? If its been running on bio, things could have gotten clogged up while it sat over the winter.

It's not that, it's almost like something is stopping it. Like an immobilizer?

If it was the immobilizer, you'd have a light on in the dash. Also, it would start, but then stop a few seconds later.

Have you verified you are getting fuel? Glow plugs?

That seems to be what it does, starts, fires one "round" and then shuts down. I will have to go check the lights again some other time...this is hard to do with an infant.

Turns out to be a bad instrument cluster and immobilizer. No idea where to get a new one for a 00 beetle.
