Is that there for noise suppression, fire suppression or both? The reason I ask is I've seen others that have removed this insulation and it looks pretty nice underneath (as long as the paint is in good shape). For me, removal would purely be cosmetic.

I'd like to see pics if some have removed theirs when you have a chance.

Thanks

My tdi didn't have it but has the clips. It is designed to melt the clips in a fire, causing the blanket to fall onto the engine for fire suppression. It is also said to make it quieter . If I were you I'd remove it and see if it is louder, if it is, I put it back. I'd like to know the answer if you try that, as I have been looking for one to quieten things up.

I'll give a try when it warms up out here... -5 degrees & -24 degrees with the wind chill this morning :(

Thank goodness I have a garage

My 98 didn't have that, instead the plastic cover had some insulation on it. That came off within the first year.

I thought about but never got around to buying something to stick to the underside of the hood like you have to reduce the noise getting out from the engine bay.
