Vacuum leak? Non Turbo whistle driver side

4305 Views 9 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  richrecovery
I'm having a whistle (not a turbo whistle this is a 1.8t) coming from the drivers side when under acceleration. I've checked the vacuum hoses and did make one change that has helped, (it was a lot worse and louder) but not sure what to look at next.

Watching the video you can hear the whistle kick in at 8sec - 14sec. Again at 24-28 and 48-50.

Thanks.

Wow - can't believe I've stumped the forum...185 view and no comments. Funny thing is there are only 8 views of the video and if I wouldn't of posted a video there would of multiple posts asking for a recording.

lol - back to the top..:)
I'm no mechanic. But, maybe I can help.

My car does have the 1.8t, but I had a non-turbo whistle. It was a cracked rubber "crank-case" breather hose.

Maybe have that checked?
thanks; I have not looked at that hose and will do so next.

This is a 1.8t as well and have adjusted my wording to reflect that it is not the whistle from the turbo I am hearing. Maybe my wording was confusing. :D
sorry

Yea you have a leak somewhere but who knows I have never heard that before in any car. I wouldn't want to lead you in the wrong direction so I didn't post any advice.
This is the hose I was talking about. My VW shop sent me this pic when I had it checked.

*I am not saying that you have this problem, only a suggestion on what to check. :wink2:

that usually happens when the Hockey Puk valve fails shot or stuck shot............the air has to go somewhere..LOL :p
Actually, 1.8T engines are very easy to understand and to fix.

IF you hear something not familiar, most of times the reason is hoses. Check every kind of hoses and the other reason can be your exhaust connections. You have to check your exhaust system regularly because they can be rushed after years.
I have not checked the exhaust. Which in hindsight I probably should of thought of that. Had my TDI blow a big hole in the down pipe. lol
