Hello all,

I'm in need of the use and assistance of someone in the Pittsburgh area who has a VAG-COM. I have a 2002 NB, and have been having some trouble the last few months and haven't been able to pin down what the problem is. I would have a had time starting the car from time to time, replaced the fuel pump relay, and now it stalls at idle from time to time. Occasionally I still have trouble starting the car but no where near as bad as before.

When I start the car I usually hear a screeching noise.

And the check engine light is on.

The following codes come up:

P0261 - Cylinder 1, injector circuit low
P0264 - Cylinder 2, injector circuit low
P0267 - Cylinder 3, injector circuit low
P0270 - Cylinder 4, injector circuit low

P0445 - Evaporative emissions system purge control valve circuit shorted.

P0037 - Heated oxygen sensor heater control circuit low. Bank 1, sensor 2.

P0418 - Secondary Air Injection System Relay 'A" Circuit Malfunction.

P0321 - Ignition/Distributor Engine Speed Input Circuit Range/Performance

P0322 - Ignition/Distributor Engine Speed Input Circuit No Signal

Thanks,

Patrick

You could be looking at an alternator fault, minimum will be loose belt. If the alternator has a loose belt or the bearings are tight it will screech when you start the car as the crank is turning faster than the alternator, the screech will stop when the alternator reaches the same speed. A dead short can also produce the same effect as the alternator is under heavy load.

If the 'screech' occurs immediately after the engine fires up, it is probably the starter.
