Hi, I finally got a working cable and I wanted to tweak some of the car settings.

I have a 2001 beetle.

I managed to set the remote to open both doors in one press of the button instead of two.

Anyone has more tricks? For some reason, I get no response from the instrument module number 17.

What cable did you purchase; is it a genuine Ross Tech cable? Most cables that are not genuine Ross Tech; will run a limited version of VCDS. Here is a page; that breaks down the capabilities, depending on what you are running (e.g.: VCDS Lite and VCDS full version):

The Mark IV Volkswagens; are limited in "tweaks" compared to later models but there are some that can be done. Here are some that can get you started:

I got a cheap cable from amazon. It seems I'm not restricted by the cable.

I can register the app if I see some good tweaks I can run in the registered version.

Here is an example; of a full scan from my 2002 New Beetle Turbo S with a full genuine version of VCDS by Ross Tech: note which computer modules come up in the scan: in my case #17 DOES show up.

There was a change from 2001 to 2002; the immobilizer went from Immo 2 to immo 3. That wouldn't seem to affect the ability of the module to be scanned and read. However, I do not have a 2001 New Beetle to scan and see if #17 shows up on a scan report. The only other thing I would think of is the possibility of problems with the speedo cluster or possibly a aftermarket radio, could cause problems.
