What 2014 Has Given Me Back

So 2014 has been a tough year for me. A year ago I was married, living happily in my Colorado home with roots down and a happy family when everything spun out of control. I'm now living back home (Canada) and going back to college, single mom to a four year old, doing whatever it takes to make sure things never spin that out of control again. The Holidays have brought me keys to a 98 New Beetle. I would of never guessed even a month ago that I would be holding keys to a car (any car but a beetle?!) after many ups and downs this month I drove home Jiminy (that's his name) and parked him in my parking spot outside of my townhouse. It's so surreal. It's a 98 with 206,000 km (128,000 miles) automatic that was originally red and has been since painted yellow. My father and grandfather are both mechanics so I lucked out with the minor repairs that will be undergoing in the next few weeks. Here's some pics! Some were taken from the ad I found it on and others from when I visited and put it down and some from last night when it was late.

I ordered some extra bright headlight bulbs and am going to be picking up the Turtle Wax Headlight restoration kit after the Holidays cause the headlights just look so gloomy and yellow.

Another question I had is what model exactly is this? I've seen GLS and GL and just 2DR. It has cruise and heated seats.

Here are the dingy headlights I was talking about. It's so bad that we drove it with the high beams on (we had a low beam out) and no one could even notice cause they were so dull. No one flashed their lights at us, we actually couldn't see very much at all with either low or high beams. I'm prepared to sink $300 ish on new headlights if it comes down to it but I'm hoping I can just restore these and go with a brighter H1 bulb.

Congrats on the new car and best of luck in the future.
Your car is a GL. The car came with either cloth or leatherette interior.
The difference between the GL and GLS is fog lights and a sunroof.
Awesome thanks! It has cloth seats in both front and back.

I'm excited to see the gas savings traveling to College everyday. I was surprised at how much pep these little buggers (pun intended) have!
My local dealer polishes the headlights for $75 (both sides) and they look almost new :)

Congratulations on the new ride! The 98s came as package 1 or 2, the gl/gls/glx didn't come until later.

That's an awesome price. I'm scared to even ask what the dealers charge around here. I'll have to look into it.
