I have a 2006 Beetle 2.5 with auto trans. I'm trying to get a new filter & replacement fluid for a service. The parts store asks if it is an 09G trans. Is it?? And what kind & how much fluid should I get for the change?

Thanks for all help.

You most likely; have a 09G transmission. You might look for the transmission code, to confirm.

Look at page #5: for code location:

Volkswagen's self study program; about the 09G:

For correct vw factory spec fluids and complete tranmission maintenance kits; you might check out these guys:

Here is some good overall info; about identifying your transmission and links to look up the correct kit, for your particular application:

If the transmission is a 6 speed, it should be a 09G Tiptronic.

Typically need 4-5 quarts for a pan drain and drop as I recall.

You can use Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF without a problem.

The 09G gasket can be cleaned with brake cleaner and reused and the filter is just a screen that will not likely need to even be removed.

Fill the transmission from the drain plug, get 2 drain plug gaskets from the dealer or online.

Thank you.

I looked at the build tag and found it has a "HTU" trans. Is that the 09G trans ???

Yes, HTU is an 09G 6 speed Tiptronic. As far as I understand there were only 3 automatics in the New Beetles? 4 speed, 6 speed which I think were all Tiptronic 09G's?? and the sport automatic with the clutch, it is a hybrid manual/auto, do not recall what VW calls it, SSG? BMW calls it a SMG.

DO NOT attempt to fill the transmission from the upper fill plug if your car has on, fill from the pan drain. Stupid easy and brilliant once you find an adapter to fit the drain threads.

I fill the trans, reuse the original washer, drive a day and then recheck/refill and then install new drain plug washer.

Make sure the plastic stub in the drain is snug, fully seated, does not need much torque, I use my hand on the Hex driver. If the stub is not bottomed, then the fluid level will be low.
