Ok, bug does not want to turn over, battery is good, starter just clicks. Took starter off and bench tested, all OK. Tested alternator and battery, all OK. Replaced starter again just the same.
Replaced starter from my mk4 golf which I know is OK, same problem, she just clicks. Pushed the car its own length and engaged 2nd gear and the bug fired up and runs fine, any ideas guys
as Im stumped with this one

I would start at your ground under the battery. I always start at the grounding points on any electrical issues.

I believe there are three ground wires, one under the battery tray, one behind the driver headlight, one mounted on the engine chassis. Could be your ignition switch I believe those are known to cause problems.
Cheers for your help guys, will check these all out
