Recently my '98 NB developed a problem whereby the wipers woudl at first run very slowly, and then return to normal speed. 2 days ago after running slowly they simply died.

I have not yet had a chance to diagnose the problem (the car is primarily driven by my 17-year-old daughter) but I though I'd ask if anyone else had had a similar problem, and if so, what the fault turned out to be.

thanks

The motor wasn't the problem.

I took the entire wiper motor/arm/support assembly out last wednesday, and disassembled it, after I determined that the problem was was the corner(far left) wiper shaft. All the original lubricant was gone and the shaft had partially seized in the housing. The right hand wiper shaft was also dry of lube, but still moved freely.

I knocked the wiper shaft out of the housing with a plastic hammer, lubed both wiper shafts with wheel bearing grease, and reassembled. The wipers work good as new, now.
