I've done this to our Subarus - solder in an audio cable to enable using an iPod, phone, etc to play through the factory stereo. Besides working perfectly, best part about it - this mod was practically free ($4 for a connector for one of the cars); everything else in the system works too.
Basically, you tap into the audio signal inputs upstream of the amp and play a silent CD while using the aux device.
