We are looking to purchase an older (2003-?) convertible but must be automatic for my teen daughter. Budget is $5000. We are located in Michigan but willing to travel for the right car.
I'm following this thread because I'm in the same boat (tho doesn't have to be a vert or an auto). I've been focusing on 2006-2010 for autos but this is the first time I've heard of 04-05 having a better auto than earlier ones. What's different in the 04-05?Move up one year 2004 or newer, that way you can avoid the certain death of the 01m transmissions which are in the 98-03 model years. The 04’s and after are slightly less troublesome, but even then slightly isn’t saying much. Teach her to drive stick, her friends won’t be able to borrow her car and she won’t have to worry about it being stolen.

Thanks for your help and good luck to the OP!

We found one and are picking it up this morning here in Michigan. It is a 2005 manual convertible with 113,000 miles on it. I ordered a CarFax and looks like the car was well-maintained.
Sorry, well maybe you try somewhere else if you could get one..I think there is still many out there available for saleBad news, lady sold the car while we were 45 minutes into driving to her and never let us know even though we made an appointment and offered to give her a deposit via PayPal because she is a well known realtor here in Michigan so I’m back on the hunt looking
