Hello all! My son has a 2010 beetle. There is an oil leak from somewhere and we haven’t been able to figure it out yet. The valve cover and oil pan have both been recently replaced. Our weather has dropped in temperature, but the drips that he has been having have turned into a decent size small puddle in the last two days. Any ideas where or what could be leaking? I have attached two photos of where it has leaked in the driveway.

Review the links and the other links inside the discussion; the leaking oil from the pump gets everywhere and it’s confusing to attempt to figure out where it’s coming from. Even after resealing the vacuum pump, pooled up residual oil, will continue to drip for days if not weeks, afterwards.

Keep us in the loop, if you decide to do the vacuum pump, RKXTech or equivalent reseal kit and what your results end up being.

If that’s the case, you might replace the rubber seals for the oil filter or upgrade to a aftermarket improved billet aluminum version; as the plastic ones eventually crack and plastic becomes fragile.

I do have an update. It is not a good update. We have noticed the dipstick is showing pretty full. I know how to wipe a dipstick to check properly. Something told me to smell and I did. The oil smells like gas. The beetle has been parked for over a week. A neighbor works on VW in his spare time. While the beetle was cranked he pulled the dipstick and the engine seemed like it was really struggling. At this point we are looking at options to not continue putting money into it. If anyone has an idea we are all ears

I went overreact about the situation; you need to diagnose the problems specifically and actually figure out what’s going on, there may not really be a problem at this point? For example, the card could be running really rich or a fuel injector could be stuck open, etc. Many possibilities, don’t throw the baby out with a bathwater; correct diagnosis is key.

What are you thinking; Is the issue or what did the VW guy say?

When was the last time the oil was changed?
