Are you using a vw scan tool or a multimeter?

Here is a video showing vcds live data; indicating the switches working correctly:

Good question, we have had the flaps continuously break on the convertibles, later vw deleted these. So, many have removed the flaps but left things plugged in and in those cases are able to have the top function (so things are plugged in; not disconnected).

Well, i would do a hard reset of the ecu and hook electrical things back up, even with things taken apart, like door panels removed and try testing from there.

Your VW dealers parts dept, can sell you a yellow “repair wire”; which VW provides for factory style repairs, the repair wire, comes with two crimped terminal ends, on one wire. You can remove the old wires from the plug housing and insert the new terminal wires and use a butt connector to finish off the repair.

Looks like the plug is:

04-10 Vw Audi Blue 6 Port Connector Plug 4 Wire Pigtail OEM #6Q0972706

Sold online as used/new pigtail or plug housing with pins from China, AliExpress, etc?

Your vw dealer can get you a correct repair wire with the correct terminal crimped on both ends or just buy Ă  pigtail plug that is fully assembled online (posted a link above).

As noted before, others have removed the break prone flaps but kept everything else connected and intact, eliminating future breakage but keeping the top functional.

Thanks for the updates and detective work; if you have any photos of the ongoing work or mods to the flap mechanisms, this can help others in the future. Thanks.

Well, have you diagnosed the problem correctly (?); correct diagnosis, would start with using VCDS by Ross Tech or equivalent VW factory level scan tool and checking for trouble codes, viewing live data. Typically, a bad sensor causes this problem; to narrow down, which sensor is bad you need to test things, view trouble codes and confirm, by viewing live data.
