Help car won't start

This has been occuring for 3 weeks now. When I try starting my 1.9 tdi beetle it won't show the glow plug indicator light. If I switch the ignition on and off eventually it will appear and I hear the relays and the fuel pump. But If it doesn't show I hear none of that. Eventually I can get the car to start and it runs and drives smooth. But if I turn it off and let it cool down it becomes a nightmare to start. I changed the glow plugs and wiring harness. But it's still doing the same thing. the check engine light is on but only says my throttle body is going bad. But again once I get it to start I get perfect response and it drives smooth. I replaced all relays and still get the same result. Could the next thing I should check be the ECU. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Can you post the code number you are getting? Are you scanning with VCDS? Checked Relay 109? What year car do you have?

I would rescan and post the exact code you are getting.

I think your car is too new for the relay 109. But basically the lack of glow plug light and no start sounds like the ECU isn't getting power. So I would look into fuses, relays, and grounds.

I would swap out the 109 relay, however they were not known to cause problems like they did on the early 00-03 models. Definitely worth a shot though.

I’d be more inclined to think it’s your ignition switch.
