Will a bad thermostat that opens too soon, not leting engine get to proper running temp. cause a code to be set and a high idle (1500-1600 rpm) ????? When cold, it idles ok, as soon as the blue cold coolant light goes out idle goes up.

throttle body
If you haven't cleaned your throttle body valve in a while that could be your problem. Just remove and clean with carb cleaner/spray from walmart, ie 2 bucks a can. then
Re-program your throttle body valve by disconnecting the battery and touching both cables together and hold for 10 seconds, reconnect cables to battery, turn the key to the on position without cranking or starting car, leave there for 20 seconds, move key back to off position. YA DONE MAN :goodjob:
