Ignition switch question

I've had ignition switch problems... ongoing.... the wiring isn't good. I know that part needs fixed. If the ignition switch itself is bad too, would the car still start by being jumped?

What specifically is bad and have you replaced those parts yet? Is the car able to start and how is it acting?

You might review this ignition switch, DIY; note possible melted wires, plug, and switch replacement.

Specifically? That's a loaded question!!
The battery is dead. After I jump it off & drive, it does get recharged, but the next morning it's dead. The auto parts store checked it, said it was 12.something volts and when I tried to start it, it went down to 9.something, then back up to 10, so he said it was the starter. My battery is notorious for going bad quicker than normal, so I think it's the battery is bad, not bad all the way but bad enough not to be able to start my car.

my ignition switch needs the wiring to be fixed. I'm working on getting that fixed. That's why I asked if it'd start if it's the ignition switch. I can't remember, but I thought the last time my ignition switch was bad bad, it wouldn't even start with a jump.

Well, it sounds like you’ve got a number of issues to diagnose and test; I would do a process of elimination to find the problem. Most local Auto Parts store should be able to do a test of the charging system (battery, alternator) to confirm if the battery is good, alternator is charging as it should and also the same testing equipment should be able to do a load test and confirm the starter is a problem or not.

If you are able to charge up the battery in the next morning, it is dead; you might have a parasitic draw?

If the starter switch is bad, that is a easy replacement and if the wires and plug to the switch are melted, you could get a replacement pigtail, to easily do that repair.

If you want a full kit with a switch and pigtail, with the option of getting a terminal release tool, check out this kit by Clusters by Litke:
