On another note.... Has anyone else had to replace the tube that holds the oil dipstick? Mine cracked and crumbled and so the dipstick sank, so when I would check my oil it would read above the line. It was about $15 from the dealer but still.... cheap brittle plastic. Why cant they make car parts like they use to? a little longer lasting!
I plan on doing so as soon as i get to the stealership to get one. Right now i have a garden hose stuck on there thats cut to the same length so the reading is accurate. The guy at the last oil change place called me a "Gerry-Rigger".

I'll let you know how it works out.

As far as oil type, I use whichever castrol synthetic blend Midas uses. It's a 5W-30, i know that for sure.

I don't change my own oil yet because bringing up some ramps and an oil pan isn't practicable yet (being in college and all), so i haven't bought them yet.

Once i do, i'm goin Mobil 1 Full Synthetic. I've heard too many good things about it not to.

STEALERSHIP.... i like that!!!

What's a gerry-rigger? is that because you mickey moused your dipstick holder tube? haha... good idea though. Wish I woulda thought of that..... then again wish VOLKSWAGEN would have thought to use better material from which to make its car parts rather than cheap
P L A S T I C !! grrr...

Mobil 1 Full Synthetic huh? i've heard about that a couple of times. You think that's good for higher mile engines too? i have about 102.5 K miles now.

Which reminds me.. I need an oil change... I'm glad I learned to do it myself :)banana:my daddy taught me... and i'm a girl:clap:) now I just need to decide wether I want to get dirty or pay someone else to get dirty for me.... hmm.... decisions... decisions!

YEP!!! had to replace mine also...

Hey ya'll...

man I hope I'm not the only one using this but I use Valvoline MaxLife Synthetic 5w-30. I have just over 100K on my car and that seems to last a little longer and run better in between oil changes every 5-6K miles.

I use AMSOIL full synthetic 5w-30 high performance motor oil in my 98 2.0 beetle. It runs real nice and should last at least 7500 miles or more if you change the filter every once in a while. It costs about 6.50 a quart i think, but only the best for my bug :D .
Ditto! but i only pay $5/qt and run it with a K&N oil filter. been doing it for almost 100K
