I have the ck engine light on with the code for secondary air injection .I found a bad vacumn hose on the egr valve today and tryed to clear the code with a obd 11 scanner with no success. Will the light go out on it's own ? Thanks

That code is for the SAI pump has a leak somewhere's. check your hoses coming in and out of the pump or it might not be running at all when it's suppose to. There is a diy thread here at newbeetle forums showing how to fix those by drilling out the rivets and putting screws/nuts. Good luck man.......and welcome to newbeetle.org

The system seems to be working. The pump ran with a loud sound like a vacumn cleaner before I fixed the vacumn line to the egr valve I think because the valve was closed. Now when it runs it's alot quieter I think because the valve must be opening now. With the system running if I pull the vacumn line off the valve you can hear the pump change sound as if it just closed so I am thinking every thing is ok.If so how long would it take for the light to go out?And thanks for the reply this site has lots of good advice.I only had the car two weeks and I had transmission problems, leaking coolant flange, and the code for the secondary air injection low flow.I hope thats it.Thanks

That vacuum sound, sounds like the SAI pump has lost it's seal. Next time you start your beetle cold, first pop your hood- you'll need to make a quick jaunt underneath the hood right after you start it. Start your beetle, then go under your hood and put your hand around the SAI pump. Imagine your SAI being an oreo cookie- 2 halves. You would be placing your hand around the middle section- the oreo filling. It's along this seam where you'll feel suction on your hand. If you feel this suction, your SAI pump has a bad seal. Matter of fact, you might see the white foam seal protruding out of the seam... so I guess my oreo analogy isn't too far off

if you're beetle is already warmed up, have someone in the car while you are under the hood, with your hand around the pump. have a person in the car rev up the engine several times. This should get the pump going & allow you to test for a seal leak.

The fix is very easy. Route out the loose rivets with a drill bit, replace the rivets with machine bolts & corresponding nuts. I did the diy via the thread here. Kinda hard to link it via my phone. When I get home, I'll post it for ya.

All the best to ya.

I'm not very good at describing something. The pump was loud because the egr valve wasn't opening. Now that I repaired the vacuum line from the solenoid to the egr or combi it's opening and now the pump is quieter because it has somewhere for the air to go.When the system is running if I take off the vacuum line from the solenoid the egr or combi it closes and the pump makes a different sound because it can't pump air.So I am thinking that it's working. Thanks
