Window issue

My driver's side window fell into the door panel & won't come up. When I hit the UP button, it just makes a grinding sound. I can look down & see the window is all in one piece. I just need to know if I need a window ASSEMBLY or REGULATOR.
my car is a 1998 VW Beetle

Typically, when this happens, it’s the window regulator that needs repaired; there is still a window regulator repair kit with the parts that we’re out or you buy a whole new assembly.
