One of the lights is the battery; top left light, is it possible you have a low battery or charging problem? Most auto parts stores, will do a charging system test for free and you can rule out, that as a problem. Checking for trouble codes, may reveal some codes as well but a charging problem, will throw many codes, from a dead battery or low voltage problem, from a malfunctioning charging system.

The immobilizer system, can randomly kick on; causing a no start issue, you might try a hard rest if the ecu and again, low voltage issues, can exacerbate immo issues.

Yes, that is a battery light. Get the charging system checked. The bottom left light is for the convertible top I believe. And the one on the right is for your gas cap - make sure its nice and tight.

Thank you for the response . O don't know why it does it it's random and the when the fuel cap ligh, and convertibal light with the battery light come on the car won't start ithise are the only light that will come on. If you wait 2 min and try again the lights will not come on and the car starts. I've have the charging system tested it's fine. How do you hard reset the ECU do you disconnect the battery for a while. And will I have to reflash it

When you say it won't start; is the starter turning over (spinning) or not? You might scan the car for trouble codes and see if you are getting any codes for something like the immobilizer kicking on or a failing crank sensor (two of many possible reasons for a intermittent no start condition).

I don't know what testing has been done to the charging system but if the battery light is on, there is typically a problem, it should go out, when the engine is started. Something like the battery or alternator; can "work" but be on the edge of failing, causing immobilizer problems and low voltage issues.

I'm not sure what you mean by "reflashing" things, i would. not see a need to mess with programming the ecu but to do a "hard reset" of the ecu: remove the positive/negative battery cables, touch them together for a number of seconds and reinstall them on the battery.

So when it doesn't turn on is I mean you turn the key and nothing happens but the only thing it's on is the battery light the gas cap light and the convertible top light which makes no sense to me I'm buying a scanner should be here next week it's cheaper than having someone scan it for me in my area Volkswagens kind of expensive to get scannedI think the immobilizers what's turning on but it doesn't make sense that those lights turn on and when you actually wait 2 minutes or so and turn it on again it'll start and those lights never come on again besides the battery light for itself check

The immobilizer will shut the car off after a few seconds of running, not keep it from starting all together. So its not an immo issue. A good scan will help. But I still wonder about the charging system. Did you get the battery load tested? Did they test the alternator as well?

Hi I have the same issue going on do you know what you did to fix it please
This discussion was never resolved; I suggest that you start a new discussion and fully describe all the problems you’re having, and we can go from there.
