Is there some sort of visor extender I can buy for my visor?
Mine is completely useless. Is it me thats too short or does anyone else have a problem with theirs being too short. Alot of times if Im driving in the direction that the sun is setting Im completely blinded. My visor doesnt come down far enough to block it out! :(

I ordered a visor from the dealership to have it installed on my 2002--with sunroof. I was told that it was not a simple swap and that the headliner needed to be lowered to access the area:mad: Let's assume an hour's labor plus the $60 for the visor and I decided that it wasn't worth it--to top it off, I had to pay $9/reshelving fee for the visor that I returned.

Solution? I think I'll by a pair of those nifty wrap-around sunglasses that we see senior citizens wearing. On second thought...

Take care
Insanity. To remove the old grab handle or sunglass holder, you pop off two little caps covering the screws, remove the screws using a Phillips head screwdriver - voila it's removed.

To install the visor, you place it where the old grab handle/sunglass holder was, and using the same Phillips screwdriver and the old screws, you screw the new visor in place. The only other parts you might have to order or the little plastic caps to cover the screw holes if your old ones don't fit - mine didn't so I spent $4 CDN to buy new caps just because I'm anal - you can't see the holes until you pull down the grab handle.

Have you tried the new visor with the sunglasses holder instead of the handle? I'd like to keep mine. It looks like it might work...

Oh and we need some pics too! This was done on a 2000 non-sunroof correct?

Took out the sunglass holder, and put in the visor/grab handle.

So will it work if I want to KEEP the sunglass holder?

No..it was done on a 2000 with sunroof. The visor comes integrated with a handle. The sunglass holder won't fit into the visor where the handle is - wrong shape/size. What I think I'm going to do is replace the pass side handle with my old sunglass holder. It's not that far of a reach to get to it on the pass side and my passengers can hang onto the grab rail in front.

"So will it work if I want to KEEP the sunglass holder?"

No.

Thanks for the 411

:) can the visor be ordered online? If so, what is the website? I'm in Texas and the sun is brutal during my drive home from work. Thanks :thewave:

Do the side visors help or are they too short too?

 Anyone installed one of these side visors and found that they help much? please let me know Thanks!!

They help somewhat, but I'm still getting blasted by the sun
at certain times of the day.

It's not short lenghtwise.
I would say the height.
I'm 6'2" and have the seat
all the way back
at the lowest setting
and at a recline.

What I may do is make my own visor/curtain that hangs down
from the grab handle and can be put up on the ceiling
and also attached to the pillar/door frame with velcro.

After all these years later; since posting about these sunvisors, when they came out in 2006.... I found myself at the junk yard today and found one of these visors; in light gray color just like my new beetles interior! I will try and install it tomorrow, see how it goes! I was surprised; to find that it was essentially in relatively mint condition and really did not seem to be affected by the heat; here in the desert (it is hard plastic; not like the front sun visors)! The junk yard guy; said it would be $15 and then just gave it to me, after spending all afternoon looking for parts for my brothers vehicles. I almost had heat stroke; it was hot in El Paso and I called it a day around 4 pm (I should have brought some water!). I also got; tons of nuts and bolts that were scattered all over the inside of the hacked up beetles! You can never have too many nuts and bolts for your new beetle! :)

I just looked up the part; now it is selling for about $75 at the VW dealer, I guess I did ok! :)

This is the first time; I have seriously looked at the junk yards for parts, for my new beetle! These cars are starting to blow up, throw timing belts, blow head gaskets and get wrecked or end up, not being cost effective to do major repairs to at this point. I think the prices for parts are going to be getting cheaper then in the past (a number of years ago; the junk yards were asking above dealer prices for parts!)! Time to go scrounging! :)

Now if I can just find a wrecked R32, Audi TT 225; to get some of the bigger brakes and a 20th GTI to get those cool 18s off of (I would be happy as a clam! :)

Just looked it up, cause I'm interested too. :)

Here is the info about the optional side sunvisor. These came on later model new beetles years, 2006 and on. So, if you order the part; order by the part number and not your new beetles vin number, as that won't work. There are two versions; one with and without a sunroof, plus either beige or gray in color.

volkswagen part numbers:

1C0-857-609-D-3PT / Sun Visor
side, w/sunroof beige
$74.64
1C0-857-609-D-Y20 / Sun Visor
side, w/sunroof gray
-
1C0-857-609-E-3PT / Sun Visor
side, w/o sunroof beige
$74.64
1C0-857-609-E-Y20 / Sun Visor
side, w/o sunroof gray
