How do you disable the convertible roof sensor in 2008 Beetle

Help! I have a 2008 Beetle convertible with a manual roof. The passenger side lock (behind the rear seats) won't lock the roof in place when the roof is down. It's the lock that you have to press to disengage when you want to put the roof up. Does anyone know how to disable the sensor so it won't beep? Or, can someone confirm the lock part number? I think it might be 1Y0871662A

Thanks!

There are a number of sensors on these convertible top systems; it would be best to scan for trouble codes, that way you would know specifically which malfunctioning sensor is causing the problem?

Download the VW SSP 281; to understand how the system is laid out, designed and the location of the specific position sensors:

Correct diagnoses requires a VW scan tool; i prefer vcds by ross tech $199 but a cheaper option the Ancel BD500 is $65 on Amazon.

I suggest you get a Volkswagen scan tool as soon as possible, scan for codes and tell what you find, we can go from there.

For Parts info, search by vin and correct pricing; check out the Volkswagen Parts site or contact a local VW dealer with your Vin number:

gregoryklausner - Billymade is right - get the ross tech scan tool. It will tell you precisely which sensor is the problem. I have a 2004 with a power top, but had the same beeping issue. The ross tech pointed to sensor F326 (see Page 30 of the SSP281) which is the sensor on the latch. (I may have my right and left backward - one side is F326, the other is F325). My latch was working, but the sensor kept beeping. Turned out the activator arm that presses on the switch button on the sensor had broken off. VW does not sell the switch, only the entire $980 latch. I replaced the activator arm with one from a cheap amazon switch. I bent the arm to the correct angle and epoxied it to the switch. All good for 8 months. You really should fix/replace your latch to insure the top is locked in place. It is only 3 bolts. Took about 2 hours to get to it and put everything back. Here is the link to the cheap donor switches. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07P4CJ8TV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
