I have an 05 beetle TDI is it possible to put a trailer hitch on it? And if it is.. Is it hard to put on??

Yes. Hidden Hitch makes one. They are not that hard to put on.

Yes...any of those will work fine as your car is not a Turbo S. Your car has a turbo, but is not a Turbo S.

FYI: Turbo S cars were tuned-up 1.8T gas engine models with a 6 speed transmission, different bumpers, wheels and interior parts.

Yes, that is the Draw-Tite Sportframe. Have it on our '98. I think the hitches without the spare tire well braces are ok for bike racks, but I think that if you are going to do any trailer towing you should have a hitch with the extra support/brace.

Yep, that's the one I have also...with the extra couple supports that bolt through the spare tire well.

I agree with Bugstuff...if you are planning on pulling a trailer, that's the one to get.

I can that a shot of mine installed if you want to see the clearance.

I've seen TDIs pull some crazy heavy things that if that were true, would have caused the turbine to go pop.

Like pulling a colt in a trailer with a family of 5 plus luggage on the roof in your 2003 Jetta Wagon TDI.....

The guy said this wasn't the first time he'd done this. I couldn't believe my eyes.

Engine is the same across the board so, I'd say you were misled.

Installed my Draw-Tite last weekend... and promptly got my bike rack stuck in the hitch receiver!!

I don't understand how it's stuck, but I'm definitely going to get some power tools to shave down the mount on the bike-rack side as soon as I can get it out.

It's kinda stuck halfway-in. The holes don't even line up enough for me to put the pin through the receiver! It's just seriously wedged in there. If I shake the bike rack, the whole car bounces. It's pretty stuck... I'm not comfortable driving around like that with an "un-pinned" bike rack hanging back there, but after 180 miles of commuting, it still hasn't popped out or even become loose.

Anyone got any bright ideas? I found quite a few posts that say to cut the mount and then cut the stub out of the receiver... but IT'S A BRAND NEW BIKE RACK!!??

Use a piece of pipe (or something similar) and pound it out from the other side. You might want to lube up the drawbar with some PB Blaster first and let it soak for awhile.

After you get it out, you might want to grind it down a bit with a grinder - you don't want to remove the paint from the receiver as that will promote corrosion.

Good luck!!!

So after soaking in a magical concoction of Goo-Gone and WD-40, I decided to try to extricate the stuck bike rack. I pulled and shook like crazy. No dice.

I then loosened all the bolts on the Hitch RECEIVER, just in case it was torquing the receiver itself. Still no luck.

After about 30 minutes of fighting with the bike rack and shaking Nubz I was about to give up for the night, tighten the hitch receiver back and go watch Biggest Loser.

I decided to give it 30-more seconds of frantic shake/pull.

SUCCESS! Now to find a grinder.
