Thanks for posting the pic of the Alaska green Erin!! I've never seen that one. I first saw the chromaflair/semi sandwich on the news the day it happened and I freaked out especially since it was here in Colorado. Poor little thing.:(

I know I've seen a green chromaflare NB here in the states. I thought they released 2 chromaflare colors here?

there were two color combos released in 2003. here's the other one. it's a silver/green (i like this one the best!). i've seen the purple/cyan in person, but never the silver green.

I feel like I've seen the darker green...but it was a while ago and a very brief sighting. So I don't really remember.

I just know that chromaflare=hot!

chromaflair is awesome indeed! :) i really like the silver/green, too.

I found one for ten grand!!

I love Mustangs. I had to unfortunately get rid of my red 2002 GT a few months ago, because the transmission leaked for the millionth time and the second heater core in less than a year conked out. I sold it for a good price and had to share my 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe with my girlfriend (even though it is in my name). I had had enough of car sharing and started to search for a new one. My girlfriend came across a new bug she saw at a nearby (4 minutes away from the house) Lexus dealership. We went in and checked it out. I had been eyeballing a new GTI and a white Rabbit, so Volkswagens had been on my mind as a Mustang replacement. Maybe VW is in my blood. My dad used to hop them up in the seventies and late sixties. My girlfriend swears by them, so I thoght I'd give them a whirl, too.

Anyway, I love building model cars, and the paint jobs are the most fun thing about making them. I also work in the paint industry, so I know my stuff about paint. Well, I'm always jazzed over cool paint jobs, so imagine my surprise when I saw a 2003 New Beetle Turbo sitting on the lot at my local Lexus dealership complete with a flwaless Chromaflair paintjob!! The thing only had 32,004 miles on the odo, and the price was fair considering the paint job alone was a fortune. Low miles and excellent, rare paint was enough to get me to talking to the salepeople about purchasing it. I just got over a bout of I.D. theft, so I didn't knbow how good my chances would be at getting this car. Turns out that I have a great car history on my credit. Even better, I got them to come down from almost $13, 500 to ten grand. I'm not fibbing. I olny test drove it for 10 minutes and knew I had to get it. Where else are you gonna find those miles on a 6 year old car anywhere? My Mustang had almost 87,000 miles on it when I got rid of it, and it was a year older. Anyway, the VW had a clean record. No recall work and no accidents. I'm not religious, but a nice Christian girl owned it and took super excellent care of it (complete with 2 keys and the manual). It was a non-smoker's car. It drives like new, smells pretty new, and is surprisingly fast.

So, I didn't egt on here to gloat about it. I just really like this car. The paint job had a lot to do with it, but the car itself is perfect. No squeaks, either. Excellent quality for a car its size and age.

So, as far as the rarity of the color; I have no idea how many were made. If anyone knows, then let me know. Houston is a huge city as some of you might know, and there's a crapload of cars. It's a necessity to get one, and out of all the years this color Beetle has been out, I think this is only the 2nd one I've ever seen. So, do I count myself lucky on this one? I think so just based on the mileage and the price. I'm a guy, and I do not consider myself girlie for driving an Easter colored car. I get "the look" when I'm cruising, and I've only had it a day. Really a nice, nice car...so far.

Hi:wave3: What a find! As long as you take care of it the car should last at least 200000 more miles :) Was the timing belt & water pump changed? I know it's not supposed to get done till 80,000 but I really think it's more an age thing than mileage (dry rot). Post up some pics! We can never get enough of your color. I saw one last week in a parking lot.

Chromaflair was a limited edition and I think 2500 were made?
i would be surprised if it was that many, because i NEVER see them. i think i've seen a grand total of maybe three or four tops, and considering the number of 337s and 20th anniversary GTIs that were made, and how often i see those... i'm guessing chromoflair would be more like 500-1000.

I'm not sure if the Chromaflairs would fall under the 2,000 LE volume that most of the others did.

They weren't even classified as an LE like the other limited models. Most of the limited models are GLS, but marketing as an LE.

The Chromaflair paint was actually an option on the GLX model for 2003. (Granted, you couldn't just order it, I think they just made so many of em and shipped them out).

But I have to agree that they "seem" more rare than the other limiteds, I think in all this time I've seen maybe one of each on the road?

I'm from Houston too! I was looking for a chromaflair beetle and found one in South Dakota, which I bought today and am going to have shipped. You found a really great deal because mine has a lot more miles on it. Congratulations!
